Project Overview
A personal design project that transformed the concept of a traditional passport into a meaningful souvenir, creating a unique memento for an international group of friends who regularly meet up to explore the United States together.
Design Challenge
Create a passport-inspired notebook that captures the multinational spirit of the friendship group while maintaining a balance between authentic passport design elements and original creative features. The design needed to represent multiple nationalities (Canada, Scotland, New Zealand, and United States) and incorporate multiple languages (English, Spanish, Romanian, and Serbian).
Solution
Developed a custom passport design featuring:
A distinctive heraldic crest that symbolically unites all represented nations:
Canadian maple leaf as the crown
Scottish thistle, American rose, and New Zealand fern as supporting elements
Custom checkerboard pattern in the shield
Multilingual cover text in all group members' languages
Custom ID page layout that maintains the familiar passport structure while allowing for personalization
Security-inspired design elements and patterns
Burgundy cover color with embossed crest
Clear disclaimer text to prevent any confusion with official documents
Production Details
The final piece was produced as a physical notebook with attention to traditional passport materials and finishing techniques, including:
Textured cover material mimicking official passport cardstock
Embossed metallic details on the crest
High-quality binding for durability
Interior pages designed for both practical use and commemorative purposes
This project demonstrates the ability to balance official document aesthetics with personal design elements while creating a meaningful, functional piece that serves both as a souvenir and a creative interpretation of identity documentation.
